Vaping and Smoking in Greater Bendigo project update

28 November 2024

Between 15 May and 30 June 2024, the City trialled smoke and vape free locations across Greater Bendigo.

The Let’s Talk page received 450 visits and 131 submissions. 88% of submissions were supportive of the introduction of more smoke and vape-free locations in Greater Bendigo.

Some of the locations people would like to see smoke and vape free include:

  • parks and open spaces
  • retail or business areas
  • playgrounds
  • sporting events
  • sidewalks and streets
  • bus and train stations
  • eating areas and
  • schools and kindergartens

Playgrounds, bus/train stations, eating areas and schools/kindergartens are all currently legislated smoke and vape free locations. Sporting events for underage children and some retail/ business areas are also designated smoke and vape free.

Project officers are now considering opportunities for future designation of smoke and vape free locations. More consultation will be undertaken before changes are made.

More signage at Council owned or managed community and sporting facilities will also be considered. Please follow the project for updates.
