City secures $5.5 million funding for Marong Kindergarten

2 August 2023

The City of Greater Bendigo has secured $5.5 million in funding from the Victorian Government to deliver this first stage of a new kindergarten and community hub for Marong. It will initially respond to unmet demand for three and four-year old kindergarten places in the region. Stage 2 will modify the existing hall building into a more flexible multi-purpose space. Stage 2 is dependent on funding and may take some years to be delivered.

The 99-place kindergarten will help to future-proof this part of Bendigo, one of our key growth areas. This kinder will be in addition to the kinder already located here in Marong – we will need both to service the expected population and support the Victorian Government’s aims of maximising 3 and 4 year-old learning. We know that the early years are the most critical in a child’s life – this is how we can ensure they get the best start, in preparation for their growth and future education.

The kinder will be developed on the site of the current tennis court and will also feature two allied health rooms, which will provide a place for Maternal and Child Health and other services that are essential for young people’s wellbeing.
Building will start at the end of the year.
