The project

The City of Greater Bendigo is preparing for its next Budget.

The Budget makes day-to-day life in Greater Bendigo possible. It funds important services as well as building and maintenance of things like parks, roads, and libraries.

We want to hear from you! Tell us what you think is most important to help us with the Budget 2026 - 2027.

Before you take the survey, here’s a quick look at how the Budget works.

Money comes in from rates, user fees and government grants. This is then spent on services and building and maintaining facilities for our community.

About the budget

Financial challenges

The City used to have more money available to fund new projects. But in the last few years, our costs have gone up a lot more than our income. This makes it harder each year to keep providing the services the community needs with the money that we have.

The City provides more than 60 services to help the community. These include:

  • Collecting bins and running the tip
  • Cleaning streets
  • Fixing roads
  • Keeping the community and environment healthy
  • Planning new buildings and developments
  • Supporting tourism and visitors
  • Hosting big events and free public activities
  • Looking after parks, gardens, and sports areas
  • Helping families with maternal and child health
  • Running early learning centres
  • Managing places like the Bendigo Art Gallery, Ulumbarra Theatre, and The Capital
