What people value most

The reserve is well liked as a place for sport and community use. People told us they value:

  • Its role as a local community hub

Many people also highlighted the potential:

  • For the reserve to become a high-quality sporting and recreation destination
  • Opportunities to improve the natural environment

Key issues and challenges

While there is strong support for the reserve, some key issues and challenges were raised:

  • Safety concerns due to poor lighting around facilities and insufficient sports lighting
  • Not enough parking spaces. Especially when there are multiple events on at the same time
  • Concerns with the unsealed car park at the corner of Victoria Street and Upper California Gully Road
  • Lack of accessible public toilets in safe, visible areas
  • Some areas feel uninviting or not well maintained
  • Not enough shade, seating and shelter
  • Natural areas are not well cared for
  • Some sports facilities are outdated or need improvement
  • Limited accessibility and connectivity of paths across the reserve
  • Limitations in hosting larger events and competitions due to a need for further investment in sports facilities
  • People want the reserve to be inclusive for all genders, ages, abilities and backgrounds

These issues were raised often and are important to improving the reserve.
