Rosalind Park Management Plan Update

29 September 2025

Thank you to the 308 people who provided feedback to the Rosalind Park Management Plan survey.

What we heard

Most (76%) people who completed the survey said that they visit Rosalind Park at least once per month.

We asked about your experiences or interactions with flying-foxes and ibis at Rosalind Park. This is what we heard:

  • Flying-foxes

    • 25% had positive experiences
    • 62% had negative experiences
    • 13% had neither positive or negative experiences
  • Ibis

    • 11% had positive experiences
    • 38% had negative experiences
    • 51% had neither positive or negative experiences

The top 3 issues people had with both the bats and ibis were:

We shared some ideas for how to manage flying-foxes and ibis. Here are the most popular ones:

  • use of plants that flying-foxes and ibis don’t like to create buffers (60%)
  • use of deterrents to create buffers (47%)
  • park modifications (42%)
  • community education (36%)

Here are the least popular ideas:

  • protecting flying-fox and ibis roost habitat (55%), although conversely this was a favoured option for many respondents (24%)
  • removing vegetation to create buffers (44%)
  • tree trimming (34%)

An open comment section was provided for people to suggest other management options. Themes presented in these comments were:

  • move the flying-foxes and ibis to other places
  • no management of the flying-foxes and ibis
  • Keep flying-foxes and ibis out of the Fernery (like using a wire roof)
  • culling flying-foxes and ibis. Culling is illegal and is not considered in this Plan.

How has the community feedback been used?

The City worked with consultants to look at these results. We then worked together to write the Rosalind Park Management Plan: Coexistence with Flying-fox and Ibis. We used your feedback to help us write this plan.

This plan provides the City with a framework to manage flying-foxes and ibis in Rosalind Park. The Plan includes a range of short-, medium-, and long-term actions to minimise conflict between humans, flying-foxes and ibis at the Park.

Next steps

This Plan will be part of a bigger plan called the Rosalind Park Plan of Management. We will keep working on this plan to make the park even better.
