Peter Krenz Centre Redevelopment – we heard you!

22 August 2022

Thank you for your interest in this plan. The Greater Bendigo City Council has now endorsed a stage one concept plan as part of a long-term, multi-staged redevelopment of Eaglehawk’s Peter Krenz Centre.

We undertook extensive community consultation, including asking for your input in February and March 2022 and received 64 survey contributions. The redevelopment will create a more diverse and vibrant community hub and 83% of you said that this would directly benefit you and your families. Benefits that you identified included: better access to the Eaglehawk Library, the swimming pool, increased use of the gym, the cafe, and somewhere to spend more family time.

How will this Community Hub benefit you?

Answers to the question: How will this community hub benefit you? Library - 31%, Pool - 25%, cafe - 19%, gym - 19%, overall better facilities - 16%, family time - 13%, meetings - 3%, skatepark/playground - 9%, local - 6%.

Key findings from the community survey

Top three suggestions for improvement

  1. Incorporation of childcare facilities or Maternal Child Health facilities.
  2. Prioritisation of the pool upgrades.
  3. Expansion of proposed public toilets including increased accessibility.

Next steps

Stage One would transform the section of the Centre closest to Lake Neangar into a more diverse and vibrant community hub.

The community hub would connect to the Centre’s existing aquatic facilities and include a new library, new indoor/outdoor café, 24/7 gym, activity rooms with kitchenettes and storage that could be used flexibly by community groups and service providers and public toilets to serve the wider precinct.

Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the decision will allow the project to progress to detailed design as funding becomes available to do so.

“The City also received fantastic feedback from the community regarding the concept plan and would like to thank everyone who contributed their input," Cr Metcalf said.

Please follow this project to be kept updated.
