The project

The Kamarooka Public Hall has been an important part of the local community for generations. In January 2024, the hall closed due to significant storm damage. Following a structural engineer's assessment, the City has determined that the hall cannot be safely repaired within the available insurance funds.

The structural engineer’s assessment has found significant damage to the structural integrity and stability of the building. This can't be fixed by localised repairs to the walls and roof elements only.

The City is now looking at how the insurance funds can be reinvested to best support the community's future. There is approximately $168,000.

We want to hear from you and explore how this investment can strengthen the local community. Your responses will help inform the City’s decision on how the funds are allocated.

We want to understand what's important to you – what you value, what brings people together, and what would make a real difference locally.

Investment ideas being explored

A range of ideas have been developed. Your feedback will help us understand what Kamarooka values and needs to best support the community's future.

All investment ideas are subject to feasibility assessment and available funding. The City will make a decision based on the:

  • survey findings
  • feasibility of delivering each option within the available funding
  • future maintenance and management requirements

Ideas that have been identified are:

  • Commemorating the history of the Kamarooka Hall

  • Installation of walking paths and outdoor fitness equipment at the Recreation Reserve

  • Upgrade of public toilets at Recreation Reserve

  • Kitchen upgrade at Recreation Reserve

  • Heating/cooling installation at the Recreation Reserve

  • Removal of old playground and installation of new playground at the Recreation Reserve

  • Half-court basketball at Recreation Reserve

  • Other community priorities identified through this engagement process

Have your say

We want to hear from you about what matters and which investments you would prioritise.

You can:

  • Complete the online survey below by April 9, 2026.
  • Attend a Community BBQ and drop-in session at the Kamarooka Recreation Reserve from 12pm to 2pm on Sunday March 22, 2026.

The Community BBQ and drop-in session will provide an opportunity to discuss the ideas, ask questions and fill out a hard copy of the survey.

When this survey has been completed, a second survey will take place to share any new ideas that emerge from the first survey and present them as ideas for the community to consider.

The second survey will be open for two weeks in May 2026. It is important to provide your email address so we can send the second survey directly to you when it opens.
