Impacts on physical activity behaviours survey summary

Thank you to everyone who completed the impacts on physical activity behaviours survey, we received 96 survey contributions as well as 56 contributions to the visioner activity.

The City’s Sport and Leisure team will use the data collected to inform a project to increase opportunities for outdoor physical activity through the non-daylight savings period. The Active and Healthy unit will use this data to advocate for infrastructure across Greater Bendigo.

Survey results summary

Survey results showed that 76% of respondents participated in less exercise outdoors through the non-daylight savings period, with the main reasons being limited daylight, weather, and feeling unsafe. In addition, 77% shared that they would like more opportunities to be physically active outdoors during the non-daylight savings period.

Visioner question results summary

What would help you to exercise outdoors during the non-daylight savings period (winter)?

Responses to the visioner question indicated a desire for additional and improved lighting infrastructure in public spaces, group fitness opportunities and the activation of additional spaces for exercise in the morning and evening. Reflections also acknowledged safety and the need for societal changes around physical and sexual violence.
