The City has developed the Plan as a long-term guiding document for Lawn Bowls in Greater Bendigo. It provides strategic direction for the sport locally and identifies opportunities to support increased participation and guide infrastructure investment into the future.

The draft Plan was prepared by insideEDGE Leisure Consulting. They worked with:

• Local bowls clubs
• The Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region
• Bowls Victoria
• Sport and Recreation Victoria
• The City’s Youth Council
• The City's Disability and Inclusion Reference Committee

The Plan includes actions across three key themes:

• Participation and inclusion
• Facilities and infrastructure
• Partnerships and advocacy

The City, local bowls clubs, and Bowls Victoria will share responsibility for delivering these actions.

Bendigo Bowls Club and Bendigo East Bowls Club are being looked at for a possible regional undercover facility. Key actions of the plan are to complete further work to:

• Confirm the best site
• Understand the feasibility of this type of facility
• Prepare a detailed business case

City managed land: Seven clubs - Bendigo, Bendigo East, Eaglehawk, Heathcote, Marong, South Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye

Privately-owned land: Five clubs - Golden Square, Kangaroo Flat, North Bendigo, White Hills and Woodbury

Crown land: One club - Elmore, managed by a community committee of management

There are seven clubs on land managed by the City and six clubs on land not managed by the City.

The City owns the buildings and facilities for clubs on City-managed land. Because of this, the City works with the clubs to look after and maintain these sites.

For clubs on land not managed by the City, the City does not have this same level of involvement. However, the City still supports these clubs because they are important to the community.

The Plan does not include recommendations for facility support for non-City facilities. Instead, it supports these clubs to access grants to support planning and long-term sustainability.
