The project
The City is required to update its Governance Rules to align with the recent amendment to the Local Government Act 2020 (Act) and to reflect current best practice standards. The Act says that every council must have Governance Rules and keep them up to date.
The Governance Rules explain how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how conflicts of interest should be handled. They help the City to meet its requirements by giving clear instructions to make sure Councillors and City staff act fairly and openly during meetings, when making decisions, and during election times.
The Election Period Policy is incorporated into the Governance Rules, however the policy was only reviewed in 2024 and does not form part of this review.
