The project

We know the Eaglehawk district has a rich history and unique character. We are now preparing the Eaglehawk Heritage Study, starting with a thematic history. This means we need your input. We want you to share the stories that have shaped Eaglehawk to paint the full picture and celebrate Eaglehawk's heritage.

Community workshop

You're invited to a workshop where you'll be joined by heritage consultants Mandy Jean and Charles Fahey, who have been engaged to prepare Stage 1 of the Eaglehawk Heritage Study (the thematic history).

Mandy and Charles have been busy researching the history of Eaglehawk and have collated some themes that will form the basis of the study, but they would like to hear from you.

After a short presentation about the early findings from Mandy and Charles' research, attendees will be welcomed to peruse a collection of historic photos and plans, share stories and information, and speak with the consultants and City staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

A thematic history identifies and explains the main factors, processes and events that have shaped a particular location or subject. It is the first step towards developing a Heritage Study.

A thematic history is a broad historical overview of an area. Stage 2 of a heritage study provides a detailed analysis of individual properties or places.

The study area covers the former former Borough of Eaglehawk. This includes Eaglehawk, Eaglehawk North, Sailors Gully, California Gully, Jackass Flat and parts of Long Gully.

We want to hear your stories and memories about the place, and what is important to you about Eaglehawk’s history.

We want to hear everyone's stories!
