City adopts Healthy Facilities Policy

7 September 2022

The City of Greater Bendigo adopted the Healthy Facilities Policy in August 2022. We developed the policy based on consultation with key stakeholders in November 2020. In February and March 2022, we asked you to tell us what would help you carry out the policy. Policy implementation will start in January 2023.

The policy applies to City owned, managed and funded facilities and venues like:

  • Sporting clubs
  • Sport, recreation and aquatic facilities
  • Neighbourhood and community houses
  • Community halls
  • Libraries

Key features of the policy include:

  • Helping facilities and venues to offer healthy, safe and sustainable food and drinks.
  • Increasing the availability and promotion of healthy food and drinks
  • Using sustainable practices like reducing waste
  • Complying with the Victorian Government’s Healthy Choices Guidelines in:
    • Cafeterias, cafés, canteens, kiosks and coffee shops
    • Catering
    • Vending machines
    • Prizes, gifts, give-aways and vouchers
    • Fundraising and sponsorship
    • Marketing, advertising and promotion

We are developing a toolkit to help you put this policy into practice. Please follow this project to be kept up to date.
