Domestic Animal Management Plan Adopted

23 February 2026

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026 - 2029 (DAMP).

What we heard

We had a wide range of community feedback on the draft DAMP.

Feedback addressed several topics including:

  • The evaluation tables within the DAMP not being in-depth enough

  • Calling for regular reminders for dog and cat owners on their responsibilities as pet owners

  • Some topics were out of scope for the DAMP to consider

  • Some topics were for things covered in the Keeping of Animals Local Law

How we used this feedback

Based on this feedback, we made changes to the DAMP on how:

  • Actions will be evaluated
  • Pet owners will be regularly reminded of their responsibilities

The Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026 - 2029 was adopted at the November 17, 2025 Council meeting. The adopted plan is available to read in full on the City's website.
