The City of Greater Bendigo's Community Granting Policy (2018) and Program provides an opportunity for incorporated not-for-profit groups and registered businesses to develop projects that complement areas identified as priorities in Council Plan 2021-2025 Council Plan 2021-2025 Mir wimbul..

The Community Grant Policy is reviewed periodically to ensure the grants program remains relevant and meets community need.

Between 2018 and end of 2020, the City processed 564 successful grant applications, totalling $2.2 million.

Grants and subsidies are available across six categories.

• Small grants – up to $3,000
  To support small projects in alignment with the strategic priorities of the City’s Community Plan 2017-2021.
  
• Community Group essentials grants – up to $3,000
  To support core community group governance and operating costs.
  
• Medium grants – up to $10,000
  To support medium projects in alignment with the strategic priorities of the City’s Community Plan 2017-2021.
  
• Large grants – up to $50,000 with a maximum of $25,000 per financial year
  To support large projects in alignment with the strategic priorities of the City’s Community Plan 2017-2021.
  
• Great Ideas grants – commencing from $50,000 (with co-contribution)
  To support projects targeted at transformational social change.
  
• Town Hall Community Use Subsidy Program
  To enable events that complement wellbeing, community connection, participation and development for residents of all ages and abilities, per the City’s Community Plan 2017-2021.

• Small grants, Community Group essentials grants and the Town Hall community use subsidy are assessed by two senior City Officers within 2-3 weeks of the application being received.
  
  
• Medium grants are assessed by a volunteer community assessment panel. Recommendations are made to two senior City Officers for decision making within 6-8 weeks of the application being received.
  
  
• Large grants are assessed by a volunteer community assessment panel, with recommendations made to Council for decision making within 8-12 weeks of the application being received.
  
  
• Great Ideas Grants are assessed by Councillors and representative partner organisations. Decisions are made at Council meetings.
