About the survey
The survey included questions about how you would spend the annual Budget. But this year it also asked questions that will guide the Council Plan and Health Plan, Asset Plan and Financial Plan.
Every four years, all Victorian councils must create their:
- Council Plan
- Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan (Health Plan)
- Asset Plan
- Long Term Financial Plan (Financial Plan)
The Council Plan and Health Plan set priorities for the next four years.
The Asset Plan and Financial Plan describe how income and assets will be used to achieve those priorities.
Each year, the Council publishes a Budget and Annual Action Plan that provides more detail on actions and spending.
More people than ever rely on the City of Greater Bendigo to provide crucial services, facilities and support. However, the cost of Council facilities and services are rising faster than the income from rates, fees and grants.
Local governments across Victoria are finding it harder to fund current services and facilities. Many of our costs are unavoidable and rising quickly, like construction materials and fuel. The City must deliver a wide range of services, including immunising children, town planning, inspecting food providers, managing waste and recycling, responding to emergencies and managing local roads.
This survey will guide our priority projects. It's important that we hear from people from all walks of life and parts of our municipality. So please get involved by completing this 5-minute survey.
Council money comes in from rates, fees and charges, and state and federal government grants. We spend it on providing services, maintaining our assets and building new facilities for our community.
The City delivers over 60 important services for our community, including:
- waste services including bin collections, transfer station operations, contractors, landfill remediation and community education.
- street cleaning
- road maintenance
- environmental health
- statutory planning
- tourism and visitor services
- major events and free public activations
- maintenance of our award winning parks, gardens and recreational facilities
- maternal and child health
- early learning centres
- our prestigious Bendigo Art Gallery, Ulumbarra and The Capital theatres
And much more. This broad range of work supports the wellbeing and needs of our community.
